We are looking to build a tent locker and store at our scout hall, we are currently looking for ideas on how to construct this. So far we have identified that it has not to be of wood construction

One of our leaders proposed a metal garage /Shed from ebay any body have a better recommendation.. Budget for project would be max 20K for a 10m x 10m "store"

Tents in storage are very prone to mould and rot. They need to be in a ventilated dry building, preferably slightly heated, and with room to be hung up so they can dry after use before being repacked.

Metal buildings are very prone to condensation due to the negligible insulation and violent temperature swings.

20k, wow the scouts have come on a long way!

How pretty does it have to be? Why not wood?
Does it have to be an area of 10x10m open plan?

I would be looking at some sort of second hand prefeb unit

You could do better on price if you do more of the work yourself, but this gives you an idea what is possible with an old fridge off a lorry

No condensation as it's insulated, and all you need is a level bit of ground to plonk it on

You also sometimes get portacabins cheap/free, they are more likely to need maintenance though

The above shipping container is a good suggestion.
Although the "free collect in person" delivery option would need the whole troop to lift it up :)

Steer clear of a cheap steel or wooden contraption, they are too easy to break into.

We use a container at work (furniture grade) for storing sheet timber and planed timber.
It's fine and dry. No condensation - (you would need to ensure stuff is dry before storage)
Total cost was abou £3k including delivery

You must have a lot of tents?

The Tent loft will not only store our unit equipment, but will also house District equipment as well. The reason we don;t want to go down the wood shed line is that we have had our bins light up a few times and a wooden shed may be targeted (arson). 20K would be top line for the budget we have fund put away (ring fenced) from when they renovated our hut in the 90's and it was never spent. The group also want to kit out this building with washpoint for dishes and some other features.

I was planning to propose something like this https://www.murraysteelbuildings.com/product/camper-van-garage-copy/ to the tent Loft sub committee, another leader has already proposed something like this - he quoted ebay ...www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Garden-Utility-Workshop-6m-x-3m-Large-Metal-Shed-Garage-Storage-Unit-20ft-10ft/273689549527

You'll find the metal shed in the ebay advert will be very delicate. Roof height too low, needs a floor, and would need insulated or lined to prevent condensation.

Maybe it would work to have a couple of structures, one a store, the other a cabin/workshop? Look at ex building site anti vandal welfare units, some may already have plumbing/electrics, and the kids could help paint the outside and tart up the inside.

Are you far from Thainstone? You'd probably get units/containers come up in the auctions there?

By the way, you will need to look at planning permission etc. In a garden you can just crack on with most things (especially if out of sight), but the scout hut won't be the same.

10mx10m is a sizable building, I'd look for a steel frame building clad either insulated or uninsulated with 5x10 building and a 5x10 canopy for when it rains. You can use this area for sinks etc.
I would have thought if you did some haggling and gave some free advertising you could get that in for 20k. 5k ground works, 12k building, 3k services.

Or get yourself a couple of second hand site office cabins, you can get them with toilets etc in them as well.
