Hi there. The rear wiper has packed up on my other half's MK4 Golf. I've removed it but it looks pretty clean to be honest.
With older cars the fault diagnosis was so much easier because if power was getting to the unit then as long as it was earthed OK you knew the problem was within the wiper/light/whatever itself. In this case the wiper has 4 wires going to it, one which is live (and good), one earth and 2 from central wiper solenoid. They go into a black plastic box attached to the wiper assembly, which has a small circuit board within. Anyone out there able to help? I have a multi meter and am prepared to use it in anger!
I took the motor off the gearbox and the armature bit out of the motor housing. On the rounded edges of the armature(?) there are some abrasions - could this be stopping things working?
In general some pointers on diagnosis and how to test the electric motor would be much appreciated.
Many thanks
JD
