The Budget 2024.

I did and I told you that the Tories have stiffened up the application laws, just to make it more difficult for low paid (seasonal) workers to come here. There is nothing to stop them applying - it's just that they won't stand a chance of getting approved - i.e. pointless.
The restrictive workers visas will never be attractive enough to encourage the workers we need here.

The fact is immigration has always been an emotive political topic, both Conservative and Labour have always said they will be tough on immigration….yet they never are. Why? A = because govts know U.K. has an aging population and it needs young workers to grow the economy.

Here is a perfect example: the current Brexit Tory govt made a big noise about tough points based system, then they introduced a fairly low limit for care workers and allowing their families too…..but there was no proper system of checks so loads of people not working in care, got in.

Haven’t you seen the wages go up for British workers

Care homes and agencies have been getting foreign workers in under the visa scheme and foreign workers have ended up,on a higher wage than British workers.

Seriously Mottie. Don't you think someone would have already thought of that over the last 70 years?
Not when it’s made easier and cheaper to get poorly paid people from abroad. Okay, it’s going to cost the end user more but that’s a price worth paying in my view. Not everything is about money.

Not everything is about money.
The economy is.

Not when it’s made easier and cheaper to get poorly paid people from abroad.

No amount of rousing encouragement will change the fact that the UK economy has always relied upon immigration. Even old Enoch admitted as much.

Okay, it’s going to cost the end user more but that’s a price worth paying in my view.
Forget that idea Mottie, because it is not viable, for many reasons.

I’m not disputing that, all I am saying is that WE should be in control that immigration. What on Earth do you think is wrong with that?

However you stand on immigration, the fact remains that the Government has failed to "stop the boats" and failed to clear the backlog.
The latest IT issues have not helped.

But I'm not sure they are even trying to.

Surely after all these years, you would think they would have made more progress?

With your attitude, it wouldn’t
Mottie says: you just have to believe harder

Mottie says: British people will eventually start picking crops and working care….yeah of course they will

Yes, it has caused a shortage. We now need to fill that shortage with our own workers and that won’t happen overnight. Haven’t you seen the wages go up for British workers? That’s a good thing. Sure, it might take you longer to get your burger served up and force you to wash your own car but that’s a price worth paying in my mind.
Yes, agreed.

We've also seen prices rise more, so the actual figure is that we are worse off

It's the cost of living that matters, not how much per hour the wages are.

But good to see that you support better wages. Now you just need to see where the money goes

Because freedom of movement worked.

It allowed flexible working arrangements for EU and U.K. citizens

If UK wants more British workers, it needs to offer affordable education to encourage them into those sectors and decent wages and conditions.

Sweden and Denmark, both EU members have better protections and wages for workers and FOM.
