The Budget 2024.

Another claim in the budget speech was now paying less tax than people in the US and Germany. Bit strange in terms of income tax as both use an entirely different system.

C4 pointed out that the failure to return to work after covid is at least partly made up by net migration which is way higher than the Tory stated intent.

Biggest winners - people on circa 50k or so especially if they have children.

When you’ve voted as long as me, over 40 years, you get used to the failed promises from them all

You also forget that I repeatedly say that we all need to pay more to get better services
I've been around a while.

Failed promises is not the thing here though. It's the bribe.

They all do and have done they

Still got your blinkers on
Despite lots of failings, Blair achieved a lot in relation to his manifestos

Lower child poverty
Lower pensioner poverty
Investment in education
Lowest NHS waiting lists in history
More nurses
More police
More teachers
Sure start

So no they aren’t all the same.

This Tory government aren’t Conservatives they are right wing populists that are governing by lies, propaganda, gaslighting

Yeah it's easy. You spend money you haven't got, change the accepted stndards on how much the country can borrow, sell off the family gold, etc.

We need more money but that's the easy bit. You can't live in money or eat it.
We've always got ;lots of it by dealing in it - insurance, stockbroking, laundering Russians' embezzled fortunes, and that.

We used to have quite a GOOD civil service who could organise what was needed - all the education/training, standards, resources, properly worked out plans and on and on.
I fear we may not have them any more.
Bit of irony - the Raj taught India to be pretty good at it too. Indians run many of the world's largest companies.
Do you think if we asked nicely, some would come over and help out?

Budget - the N.I. wheeze was a way of not handing out more to pensioners who don't work, but have a gilt-edged (Ok ally edged) mandatory increase, assuming the gov don't want to be voted out.

On the other hand, I though the one thing Liz Truss got right, was to ask people for money "for the health service" - ie increased N.I. Not much would have got to hospitals but people would have paid more readily if they thought it might.

I suggest you go look at Labours record from 1997 to 2007
They did not spend money they didn’t have.

The borrowing from 2007 to 2010 was GFC

Selling gold was the right decision

You are just another r/w fool pushing uninformed r/w tropes

In any case you are wrong, QE / MMT does allow you to spend money you haven’t got. What counts is what you do with it. This country has had 40+ years of neo liberalism that has seen this country flog everything to the private sector.

If you want to see why free markets fail, have a look at energy in France compared to UK. British Gas has seen profits rise by 800% while 6 million people suffer fuel poverty - that’s why this country is f****d
