The Budget 2024.

The entire socioeconomic model has failed, a radical rethink is required as to how society should function and be funded. And no, I don't have the answer ;)

Here we are, supposed to be the most intelligent lifeform on earth, and after centuries this is what we have?
Its politicians playing to the electorate that cause the harm as much as the economic policies.

Says the man attempting to revive an insignificant Parliamentary squabble.

One therefore also has to ask that if all our hardworking European friends have returned home, why are there labour shortages in those EU countries and are you happy to add to those shortages by encouraging them to leave their countries to serve you your burger and chips in the U.K.? That’s not a nice thing to do to a friendly EU country, is it?
On the other hand the free movement of labour within Europe is a good thing both economically and socially...

Ebb and flow dependant on the economic circumstances of different regions...

Did you complain when the 'sick man of Europe' encouraged 100's of thousands to leave the shores of the UK to seek employment on the continent?

And have you ever thought about the regional employment variations within the UK?

So, let’s get this straight, you’re quite happy to see those European countries who are short of workers to become even more short of workers so that you don’t have to queue any longer for your fast food, get a tradesmen round quicker or cheaper or your fruit picked before it goes rotten? Okay, I get it, you’re selfish.

Your latest influx of workers aren't European

But there's lots of them. Looks like we are controlling our borders, but not very well

So freedom of movement is not really a requirement then to get workers to the U.K. then. Perhaps people can STFU about it now. Sorted!
So you're not bothered about immigration.

Perhaps brexers can stfu about it then

Again, if was better before, than it is now

"The increase in non-EU immigration in the YE June 2023 was mainly driven by migrants coming for work (up to 33% from 23% in YE June 2022), largely attributed to those coming on health and care visas; in contrast, those arriving on humanitarian routes decreased from 19% to 9% over the same period."

"Looking at the historical picture, until 2019 EU nationals were the larger component of total immigration, whereas since 2021 the majority of immigration is now non-EU nationals. Non-EU immigration was estimated to be around 968,000 for YE June 2023, an increase of 120,000 compared with YE June 2022. In the YE June 2023 this group accounted for 82% of total immigration."

U.K. has shortages of nurses, doctors, vets, farm workers, care sector, hospitality.

Odd how it happened after FOM ended.
