I am currently redecorating and the thermostat in my property looks ancient and yellowed. I found a nicer looking one, not too expensive on Amazon and wondered if the current wiring( Black,Brown,Grey and Ground) are compatible and in which way it should be wired. Thanks

The old thermostat is purely manual device, but the new one is mains powered so it will also need a 230V main supply connecting to it to provide it with operating power. One of the existing wires will probably be a live (brown) but would need to be tested to make sure. the other wire will likely be the switched live (black). But there isn't a neutral which the new thermostat needs. It maybe possible to use the spare wire to provide this, but you would have to find the other end of it first to be sure.

The easiest way to replace the existing thermostat would be to buy a battery operated thermostat that only needs the two wires you have connecting to it.

Thermostat has come completely different to pictured connection, just wondering if this is still compatible, I'm going to call someone to fit it for me but just making sure it's compatible before wasting people's time having them come out?

Same, needs a neutral. Can be done but probably needs some work to fit a neutral, can't tell just how much work. As above, easiest way is to get a two wire stat.
