Hi,

Need to fit a threshold between my garage and the utility room ahead of the fire door being hung and have a question about positioning.

Should the threshold be positioned as in the first picture so flush with the frame on the side the door will be hung or like the second picture so it's in the centre of the frame.

The second seems wrong to me as it's untidy where the intumescent strips will go and will look odd under the door from the utility side.

Thanks
Chris

If there was just a thin timber/aluminium bar, then it would go right under the door (in the closed position).

Also, usually you have two floor levels or types between two rooms separated by a door, for example floor tiles on one side and wooden flooring on the other, and the threshold usually matches one of the two levels or sticks just so slightly above it. In your photo that plank of wood at the floor seems out of place as there is no flooring to separate (wooden flooring, tiles, etc), it is just the same concrete/screed. So you do not need it for the time being.
