Hi guys, my toilet flush isn't working and I don't have plumber prices to be dishing out so close to Christmas.

There is a constant small amount of water trickling inside but other than that (and the flush itself) everything else seems the same. I'm willing to repair this myself with hopefully abit of support and guidance from somebody on here with some plumbing knowledge.

I have attached a photo ,but after searching the part it returns multiple different versions of my system and I'm not sure which one I need to purchase. Any help I would be so grateful.

Is the problem that the cistern is not filling with water ? If so you need to replace the float valve ( filling valve ). Or is it filling with water ,but does not flush when you press the button ?

Thank you for the reply terry, the cistern does not fill with water.

Your links are of the flush valve ,and that's not what you need. The float valve is the one with the blue top .search for bottom fill float valve.

As there is a constant trickle I think it's most likely the flushing mech is not sealing. If it sealed, the trickle would fill the cistern and you wouldn't have a problem.
One of my sons had a similar issue. After trying various things I found the flat rubber seal (about 60mm dia) which drops over a hole had swelled slightly and was interfering with the outer thingy it slides in. I trimmed about 1.5mm off all round and that cured it. Maybe that's your problem, or perhaps just some muck under the seat. These modern cisterns just turn and click together, so easy to dismantle. I'd certainly do that and see if it's something obvious before buying anything, which might not fit anyway!

Dismantle it first and see what you find. You must be practical enough to do that if you're thinking of buying something and fitting it. If you're getting somebody else to do it, get him to dismantle it.

Try filling the cistern with water from a bucket or something. Then leave it maybe overnight, without flushing. If all the water drains away ,then as fixitflav said above ,the seal on the flush valve may be letting water pass.
The float valve however will still need replacing. Screwfix code 47792 " brass shank fill valve" made by fluidmaster, bottom entry, is as good as any.

So I went to fill the cistern and the water just went straight into the toilet , so was unable to test your method.

Also thank you to everybody's response , just trying to decide what to do next...

That confirms my suspicion - it's the flushing mech stuck open. You can see the disc with rubber seal which should cover the hole when it's not flushing on the links you posted. If you reach down you should be able to feel it, there are wide slots to let the water in. You might be able to push it down, but make sure the flush actuating link isn't holding it up. If you can't, remove it (twist it anticlockwise) and examine it.

Who's Jim?

While I'm on, I wouldn't leave it running water down the pan, specially if you're on a meter. If you don't have an iso valve you could tie up the float on the fill valve.
