Tubular motors for electric shutters question

we have a property in Tenerife, it has three electric roller shutters (Persianas)
Last year I had to replace one of the motors at a cost of €90.
The motor worked when the shutter was coming down but, when going up it needed a wee push to get it going.
Now, one of the other persianas is doing the same thing.
I was looking at You Tube and it seems that this fault is caused by a failing capacitor inside the tubular motor. The price of a capacitor is only four Euros.
As I have the old motor that I replaced last year, I was going to try to fit a new capacitor in the old motor and give it a try.
Has anyone got any experience or knowledge of these motors?

Have you looked at u-tube there seem to be a few vids there, also specialist advice available with a google search

Cap failure is a common problem.

Lots of us on here can tell you which Capacitor to buy to replace the old one.

Can you open the old motor and photo the Capacitor.

Would be good if you can photograph any markings and numbers - so can recommend a new cap.

And how it is attached to motor so can suggest how to replace.

Thanks for your replies, I didn't see them until now and I had sort of given up.
I'm coming back to Edinburgh on Wednesday and I was going to try to strip the motor and photograph the capacitor before then so, I'll to do it tomorrow because we have visitors tonight.

This is the capacitor, I hope the pictures are clear enough to identify it.
Edit; I think I have found the equivalent on EBay. They are £4.50ish.
I’m not in a hurry so, I have time to find exactly what I need.

Looks good. To confirm I see that as a 3.5uF Capacitor rated at 450V (actually says 425V).
And as you say about £5

With these capacitors it does not matter which terminal you put the live and neutral.

If there is a lack of space you may have to buy a flat ended version of cut off the bolt with a hack saw.

Can you see how it is connected - spade terminals or flying wires?


There are two here that have connectors that they calaim are for a bring of roller blinds (cost more though).

It's got spades so it should be a piece of cake.
I'll order three of them so that I can repair two motors and keep one for a spare. It's not as if they cost a bomb.

And as an aside, this is also a good fix for electric lawn mowers that have trouble starting.
