TV picture cropped at edges - Virgin cable

We have virgin tv on cable and the edges of all tv pictures are cropped down the sides, you can't get the whole picture even by changing the tv settings. I lived with this for a while but now we have a new tv and the same thing is happening. Any ideas? Also, when there is a white band along the bottom of the screen with text such as on the news, the left hand end appears green.

Well I think the time is right to contact virgin, as you know it cant be the tv.

have you adjusted the settings on the virgin box to 16:9?

Went into Virgin box settings using the remote and changed the setting to "widescreen". Job done.
