Twinplas plastic conversion to square/half round/ogee

Hi all,

Hope you are well.

Currently have the twinplas guttering on my Victorian terraced house. The neighbours have the same twinplas system.

As always, its leaking, I believe this is due to the joins (because of expansion) and the centre cavity carrying water.

I have had enough, it happening to other properties I look after but the one I am working on now is being renovated so sorting this now.

I would like to convert my guttering connecting it to the neighbours twinplas properly where I do not need to worry about leaks. One neighbour wants to convert his guttering too, so possibly run of two houses to convert.

I cannot find any connectors to go from the twinplas system to a regular square/half round/ogee.

I have searched the forum and cannot find anyone with a direct answer.

What do people suggest? What have people had done?

I have had multiple people over the years, reputable companies take apart, use new connectors and re-seal the system but its just not working for me. I can get this sorted now while its empty so seems like a suitable time to invest some research into this.

Any help is appreciated, thanks in advance.

Got the following reply from Osma:

Firstly, we do not have any adaptors from our systems to TwinPlas, or any other manufacturers products.

In this situation, mid terrace house, there is no easy way to install an alternative system in the middle of a gutter run. Matching up to a standard gutter type is hard, matching up to TwinPlas is not really feasible in our opinion.

The only possible way to match up systems is to solvent weld two external stop ends together then cutting the middle out. However, this doesn’t look good as the systems are always a different height and the internal needs to be level invert to ensure the water can still flow away. There will always be a step somewhere on the front edge of the guttering.

Sorry, we don’t have any solution to match up our systems with TwinPlas.

Spoke to local supplier of guttering, fascias etc and they also suggested there are no suitable products to convert from twinplas to any other shape.

They re-itterated the faults as they are so common, the joins fail with heat and movement over time and the cavity carries water which leaks out at the first available opportunity.

They said the idea of using two end caps to joing the lengths would eventually fail too and not suitable for a row of terraced houses.

They suggested keeping the exisitng run of guttering and re-doing the joins and using Acropol (or equivalent) over the joins to ensure the joints are water tight. Then drilling a hole(s) in the bottom of the tiwnplas run at the nearest hopper (up hill) to allow for the centre cavity to drain before it gets to my house. This hole(s) would only be to the centre cavity.

Also spoke to manufacturer of the system and they suggested using the joint below, heating it and shaping it to whatever I'm connecting it to.

Have been told that Acropol wouldn't form a good bond to the plastic of the twinplas.

Have decided to re- do the runs of gutter in new twinplas, I would re-use the exisiting stuff and re-do the joins but we've got additional joins that new runs of 6m lengths would get rid of.

Have also been made aware that there is a specific sealant that works best with twinplas which is the Dow 796. Link below for info. Supposedly this works best in the joins and has been recommended by multiple sources.
