UK chandelier in US

Hi, am purchasing a chandelier and planning to install in my home in the US. The salesman said that I will have to just buy a transformer for 110V and replace that with the 220v that comes with the chandelier. And no need to change the halogen bulbs.

Please advise if I should purchase or not worth the risk

Assuming it's 12V halogens then they should work just fine with the right transfomer. Not sure what if anything the legal issues are though.
