Hello

I have a UPVC Door fitted with a Yale Lockmaster gearbox. I need to remove the Ultion anti snap Euro Cylinder but the retaining screw head is chewed. I am just waiting for a Trend Grabbit screw removal tool to come home but what are my options if this does not grab the screw. The Cylinder is fitted with Thumb turn on the inside.
Any Ideas / Options pls

I have seldom had success with the various screw removal sets that I have used over the years.

I have the Trend set and have never once managed to remove a screw with it, but have only just noticed that they are not designed for hardened screws.

In your case, your machine screw will not be hardened. Please let us know how you get on. Some people swear by using a rubber band over the screwdriver tip. I normally start by trying to use similar, but slightly different screws drivers from different manufacturers.

A left hand drill bit will probably work as well. You run the drill backwards and it eventually grabs the screw head and unscrews it.

An impact driver might help.
But try the extractor first.

I was thinking of an impact driver but have never used them on machine screws (I don't know why I thought that though given that impact wrenches are used to remove wheel bolts in F1). I had owned an impact driver for a while. It was part of drill/driver set. I had to remove timber posts that had been screwed to a brick wall. My hand screwdriver and then my cordless drill could not budge te screws without potentially camming out the screw heads- the impact driver was effortless.
