Underfloor heating insulation

Hi all,

We're currently in the middle of an extension build and at the point that we need to start ordering our UFH material. We have a kitchen that has been measured up to 30sq with the appropriate areas being removed for units and 100mm distance away from sides as well as a 2.5sq for the bathroom. My question is do we really need insulation boards with electric loose cables? Official warmup rep said it will take 8 hours to even warm up the tiles with a concrete base. Online vendor said it can take ' a little' bit more time and my builders are adament that it isn't needed and will heat up our tiles just fine. Flex screed will be poured over the electric pipes followed by tiles. So much different info, i just need to know what to get! Thanks

ive been in the trade long time and have seen this without boards (barrier) on a concrete base. you will just be heating the concrete
the boards (barrier) reflect the heat to stop this so yes i would fit the boards
there are other brands out there cheaper brands
are the builders worried about the height it adds to the floor ??
be firm tell them they must be fitted
and remember you have to live with the result not the builder

im concerned it sounds like you dont seem to have any or much faith in the builders you are using (thats not good) have you seen there work ect
