Hi,
Structural engineer has specified a giant 356 x 368 x 129 UC to support existing back wall for an open plan kitchen / dining room. Also has specified stiffeners at 600mm centres, with bolts at 300mm centres to secure timber into the web.
The problem is that the gap to fill with Timber is approx 290mm x 180mm on each side = Lots of timber at an odd shape.
Any recommendations on what timber sizes to use to pack out the web to hang the joists onto? Would it need to be solid timber the whole way through, our could you partially pack out the depth of the web so the timber is only solid on the face.
