Upright freezer KwH consumption

Maybe one for Eric??

I bought one of those basic plug energy monitors, the same one as Eric and plugged the upright freezer into it to check it's consumption over time..

I have had it plugged in from 2nd November through to today and it recorded 45KwH over that period 53 days, so 0.85KwH per day. 0.035Kw per hour.

Are those reasonable consumption figures?
 
Google suggests a 15 cu ft upright freezer will use approx 300 KwH/year so your figure seems about right.

Good, it seemed to be almost always running when I went in there, then the meter seemed to be clocking up at an alarming rate of knots until I did the sums.

there is no way off telling really but suspect you will be around 1/3 run 2/3off time so wat[groan:p] does the ratings plate state iff it says more than 250w its on the good side if its says less then on the bad side especially this time off year when cooler air around it
but fully a guess based on what i think my freezer does

Thanks, I will need to try to find the plate, the freezer must be around 10 or 15 years old.
 
If the usage is less than 1kWh a day, that's tolerable.

I don't remember the figures now, but I was given an old (inefficient) fridge, and when I replaced it with new, the usage dropped by more than a pound a week.
