Hi, I have a Valiant 824e boiler which has recently started with a problem with the hot water.

After turning on the tap (or shower in my case) the hot water comes through fine, but after a minute or so the boiler flame goes out and the water drops cold. If I keep the tap running, the boiler will eventually fire back up.

Update: This afternoon, it seems that when I turn the tap on, the boiler does not light at all. Central heating is off.

Central heating side appears to be fine, and the diverter valve was changed last year (the old one started leaking) and has been faultless up to this.

Any suggestions?

Your boiler has a fault.

However the case on your model forms the combustion gas tight seal which makes the boiler room sealed and therefore very safe.

Consequently a DIYer should not be opening the case and should call a gas safe registered professional to do any repairs.

well better keeping your comfort/pre heat on as that is whats giving you your limited hot water ;)

whats your hot water flow rate like ?

The front case is open to the room and has nothing whatsoever to do with the combustion chamber..
Air for combustion is drawn into the combustion chamber via the fan which is situated behind the combustion cover to which is sealed from the front case.

You really should refrain from giving advise on matters you know little about.
