vauxhall astra 1991.. engine carries on running when turned

dear all,
car seems to carry on running for a few seconds , also recently the idling seems to be out / ie stalling at low revs ,traffic lights et c , any ideas , we are going on holiday tommorrow all the way to north wales , so need help fast .

Sounds to me like your timing is out, need to get timing light and check against timing marks on flywheel.

Or it could be a build up of carbon in the cylinder head chamber.
small protrusions of carbon glow red with the heat generated and is suffient to cause combustion after ignition is turned off for a few seconds. Try using a de coke product
I think RED-X may be suitable but Halfords should be able to show you latest products.
