Evening all!
This weekend the weather was good so I thought I would get my new Velux installed. It was replacing an old cracked unit, but it is also PVCU and quite some amount bigger. After viewing (many, many times!) a DIY Velux project in the project section by "LoftyAmbitions" I thought I would brave it out and have a go rather than employ a roofer or builder to do the job. Day one was messy, plaster dust everywhere from the cutting out of the skimmed ceiling! That stuff gets everywhere! Got most of the job done and got the frame in and eventually the sash. Heavy is an understatement! Now here is the queries I have, or rather problems I am trying to over come.
After making the adjustments, although the hole is within the required measurements in the instructions, the insulation collar isn't very snug in the top left corner (see pic). The frame is bang on where it should be so it is the original rafter that is on the wonk, but should the gap be so big?! Do I need to add extra insulation? What would you do!?
My next issue is somewhat frustrating..... There are two tiles at the top of the velux with notches cut out with a grinder. The problem I am having is that the one to the right won't sit flush where it is supposed to. No matter what I do, the bottom corner raises up in the air. There doesn't seem to be anything fouling it underneath and it is just this one tile. Can it be clipped or something?
Also, the ends of the surround tiles, where they meet the flashing, are raised up slightly. Looks strange to me and isn't on the other velux's in the roof (although they have been installed for years, the tiles are flush with the flashing rather than leaving the required gap (in the instructions) Am I doing something seriously wrong? All instructions were followed tot eh letter, but it doesn't seem right!?
Now the major problem I am having, is that I need to order a tile and half, well, a few of them. But I can't seem to identify the model of the tiles. I know they are branded redland, but I can't find any that have the profiled top and rear as per my photo's. Any help would be great here as today google is not my friend!
Here's the front (Colour is where it hasn't been weathered)
and here is the rear....
Thanks in advance!
