Hi,

apologies for another thread about radiator banging. I’ve read the others and I’ve tried the main suggestion of balancing, but no matter what the settings are my radiator still makes the noise.

We’ve had a new vertical radiator installed (and a new Worcester combi 6 months ago), when the heating comes on and off, the radiator makes a banging sound, basically when it expands and contracts. The sound seems excessive though. The valves in the picture don’t have any arrows on there, so I can’t tell what type they are. Is there a possibility they’ve been attached the wrong way around?

The pipe on the RHS is the flow

Is this in the same room as the boiler thermostat?

If not, get your plumber back and ask him to make it compliant. It should have a TRV.

thanks for the response! No it isn’t in the same room. I might get a different plumber tbh, he was nice but young and seemed to have a lot of trouble installing it.

Will a TRV definitely solve the issue?

Not really, they look like normal wheelhead/lockshield valves.

Have you tried shutting them down to almost closed to see if it helps? This can make the water flow noisy but worth a try.

I hadn’t tried almost closed, the smallest I’ve gone is about a quarter turn, will try less than that tonight and see if it helps!
