Hi All,
A pal of mine asked me to install a program (Pinnacle Studio 7) on his computer. The operating system is MS Vista and the PC (Acer) is a couple of years old but has plenty of space on the HDD.
I turned the PC on and it asked for a password. He didn't have clue what I was on about because he had never created one, but told me what he thought it could be and I entered it. It seemed to work because the Welcome screen appeared and it loaded all the way to the desktop. When I inserted the disc and auto-run started to load the program a warning box flashed saying that 'You do not have Aministrator's rights to install program'. So I went into the Control Panel>All Users and changed the password, which the computer allowed. Re-started the PC, entered the new password and once again tried to load the program. Same thing happened; You do not have Aministrator's rights to install program. So I gave up.
Is there a way around this? I've had a go at finding a similar problem with Google but haven't found an answer.

you have logged in with an account that isnt allowed to install software

try this

Log out of the account your using

Press CTRL-ALT then hit DEL twice, this changes the login from being square picture to a box asking username and passworfd

Enter usernme "administrator"

Enter the password you are using on other account

The only way you will be able to install this software is if you log into an account with admin privelages

Hope this helps

I think you need to right click on the installer.exe and select 'run as administrator' to install it.

Once it has installed, if it won't run properly, you may need to set the program.exe to run under administrator permissions as well. I think you may be able to do this at the shortcut it puts on your desktop.

I honestly , can't see why people create accounts on a computer. Just leave it as it is, so it starts up with all privileges. Wanna block porn sites etc from your kids? just go into security settings and create a password and set web access at the minimum settings. (not much fun though) But at least it keeps the kids from accessing something you don't want them to see.
Alternatively, If you have a router, access the router and set websites to block, eg *******.porn.com. Lie in bed safe at night in the knowledge that your kids can't access anything you don't want them to see.
I blocked any site ending in "bingo.com" and SWMBO went absolutely crackers.
