Hi all,

Got some bits for wallpapering a feature wall, which included some rolls of 'paste the wall' wallpaper, and solvite ready made 'all purpose' paste.

The problem is, I only just noticed the solvite ready made paste says in small writing 'paste the paper'.

Can I still use this paste with the 'paste the wall' wallpaper, or does it require another purchase?

Cheers.

I used paste the wall paper for the first time last year. Pretty sure Solvite did ordinary paste and paste the wall paste so I would think they are different somehow.

I just picked the one that said 'all purpose' thinking it would cover all scenarios. The specific paste the wall ready made one looks like it is pink and dries clear, and is more expensive. Presumably it's thicker as it doesn't need to soak into the paper

I was planning on doing the job this weekend, bought the ready made all purpose one off Amazon, so returning is a pain.

I'm just thinking if the differences aren't essential, that I could just use the paste the paper stuff anyway.

Be interesting to see if anyone else has done this with success.

Amazon stuff is easy to send back. I bought the packeted paste and mixed it myself. Much cheaper!

I only paper about 5 rooms a year. I don't see why your existing paste will be a problem. Most of the paste the walls adhesives I have used have been powder based but I have done rooms where the supplier provided the premixed solvite. And not the pink till dry stuff.

Years ago, Dulux retail released an emulsion that was pink until it dried. It was an overpriced gimmick.

That said, although I am a decorator, I don't do a lot of papering and will defer to the likes of @Wayners on this one.

Cant remember what Paste I used but done about 3 rooms with paste the wall and find it munch easier to do.
I have used that pink paint in the past and it was good for that purpose but crap as a paint.

I always used readymade paste as its a lower water content when hanging papers Vs flake which is mostly water. Less water in the paste has its benefits.

As for paste wall or paper you can do either.
When using paste the wall paper i would often use a 9 inch roller, then apply paste to the paper.
If you prefer you can roll paste on wall.
If the wall surface has dried paste on, its a good idea to mist with water to dampen prior to hanging paper or pasting the wall if that's what you're doing. Dry paste on wall can absorb water in paste quick making it harder to slide.
