Water leak - Strange pipe connection

Hi All,

I have encountered any issue that the hot water pipe in the ceiling started leaking. I called a plumber and it turned out that the connection was not tight enough, it could be tightened by hand easily. He used AB tools to tighten it as much as he could. Now, it is not dripping, but when I later checked it, it was not connected as smoothly as the other one. See the photos for the details.

What do you think? Is this an issue, or I can be relaxed for the future? Should I call another plumber to replace it? I want to avoid bigger water leak, but it would be hard to replace without big work.

Thanks.

The fitting now looks knackered, I'd insist it is replaced, as that as it stands, looks to me at high risk of failing completely now. Plastic fittings are fine but it is imperative they are installed correctly.

Existing fitting needs removing, then end of copper pipe checked it is suitable to used in a plastic fitting, (must not have been cut with a hacksaw, any rough edges can wreck the seal in the plastic fitting), and then ensure the plastic pipe has the correct inserts in the ends, before a new Tee is fitted.

Please get rid of those fittings as soon as you possibly can. They look like a Screwfix replica of JG Speedfit fittings. I have been called to several major expensive leaks caused by these fittings popping off!
Find a proper plumber who doesnt use a wrench on pushfit fittings. Look on Which Magazine Trusted Trades. It's easy to replace those with proper JG Speedfit if you know what you're doing. Replace then ALL or you may live to regret it!

Do you then want to be mixing brands?

I'd say stick with the same brand but have them fitted by a plumber

I am a plumber and I can tell you that me and many plumbers I know would rip those fittings out on sight. They are a poor replica of JGS and they have caused thousands of pounds worth of damage even when fitted correctly

I agree to a degree, and given my choice I would advise the same. But it's the cost.

I'm not mad on push fits brands but if it's fitted we'll then it should work and be safe.

Honestly Bod, I 100percent agree with you. But those replica fittings blow off even with the so called locking ring in position. I wouldn't have believed it myself if I hadn't seen it.
I think during lockdown ppl used them because they had trouble getting JGS and they look so similar. But they're a bloody nightmare.

I'd rather copper anytime but that's not the way the world is going. So if I have to fit pushfit I'll do it so that every fitting is maintainable.

Otherwise I'll use a crimping system like Butline if copper isn't the answer.
