Western Digital My Passport ultra

Purchased a Western Digital My Passport ultra.

Now my computer seems to lock up when I do a search or try to open files.

Anybody have a answer to remedying this ?

And does it do this when you do not had the external drive plugged in?

Have you run the search tool on the drive so that it indexes it fully? It could be that searching is simply taking too long because of no index.

Could be something else, could be your USB port - have you tried another USB port?
Is the WD powered properly? can you provide power to it from a PSU or phone charger to see if it's your USB port not providing enough power?

Have you installed the driver? And one of the three programmes which come with it is a drive checker, try running that too.

Changed USB port from the rear to one on the front of our Dell desk top.

It now has speeded up, will wait to see if anything needs doing
