New motherboard (B450) and Chip (Ryzen 2600X) arrived and I was planning to install windows 7, then upgrade it to windows 10 - to "simplify" licencing requirements.

Obviosuly Windows 7 cannot be expected to support new hardware, right out the box, so I was anticipating having to find some drivers and stuff them into a new install disc. With the NVMe drivers in particular, but I think I have a route forward on this.

What I didn't expect was the USB hardware (i.e. what they keyboard n mouse connect to...) don't see to be USB 1.1 backward compatible while in Windows 7 install. By that I mean the keyboard and mouse work fine while in the BIOS (now known as UEFI) but as soon as the Windows 7 DVD starts the install process, it installs its own drivers and support for keyboard/mouse dies from that point on... no way to progress the install at all!

It would seem AMD do not/have not provided generic USB 3 Hub drivers that I can slip on the Windows 7 DVD..

OR have they? Or HAVE they? Or have THEY?

On a lot of motherboards there's a second usb chip to add more portsbin addition to the ones built into the main chipset. Have you tried the front port sockets or any of the others on the back plate?

It's been a while since I did windows 7 but you could see if installing via LAN is possible?

It has another USB header (which I think is 2.0) and put together a little cable to adapt to USB Type A. When Mouse/Keyboard plugged in here, they work okay in the UEFI, but soon go dead once Win 7 boot up gets going. Booting via LAN would still need the keyboad and mouse working.

just to add... if having USB driver issues during OS install..
If u have an old keyboard with the round socket.. (PS/2) and the motherboard has the input sockets, this should work well enough to
your way through an install. If mobo has two PS/2 sockets and you also have old mouse.. even better.
The old PS/2 sockets negate the need for USB drivers...

Just a tip that may help someone who stumbles on this thread.. :)
