Evening All.
I have a 1950's house - standard brick cavity wall.
My window frames are fixed in the middle of the wall - i.e. they appear to be screwed into the gap where the cavity is, rather than in either the inner or outer brick leaf.
I am about to build an extension, and would like the new windows to be recessed the same distance into the walls. Is there any way of doing this? Modern building techniques appear to be to use thin cavity closers, and then to fix the windows to the outer cavity leaf - but if I do this then my windows will not match between the old and new parts of the building.
I assume on my existing windows the cavities are just closed with more bricks, and the frames screwed into them, but I guess this cannot be done any more...?
Is there a modern way of doing this?
Many thanks
