What are you drinking tonight?

Malbec tonight with my duck in orange sauce.

I’m dining alone tonight as Mrs Mottie and her sister have just taken their mum home from hospital and are having dinner at her house. Poured myself a glass of Pinot while I‘m waiting for my pie & chips to cook.

Am currently dinking a rank tasting pint of Stella. Am going to leave after a couple of sips and move on to the next pub. Had 3 pints of Stella before getting on the tube, each of which tasted fine. This one smells odd and has an unpleasant after taste. The staff here are crap though and don't care.

Sounds like the pipes need cleaning out.

Either that or after cleaning they didn't flush the pipes properly. To be fair, when I returned it to the bar to mention the weird smell and taste the bar offered me a refund or a different pint. I had a San Miguel which was fine. I get really hacked off when the response is "no one else has complained", especially if I have just had 4 pints of the same lager in another pub down the road.

Did you find it in a bottle at a cab rank?

Yep, few pints of stella will do that all right.

I drink Stella in pubs that don't sell Kronenbourg but I do feel sorry for the marketing team working on Stella.

Stella is now 4.6%, Kronenbourg is still 5%.

Stella was one of the first 5% lagers available in my west/central london based pubs (Holstein Export was the other). In cans it used to be 5.2%. They decided to release a decent tasting lager and the prats that cant handle their pints blamed it for the fact that they beat up their (physically smaller) spouses.

I often drink much more than I should. I have never laid a hand on the woman that happens to be the mother of my stepson, even though I now sleep in the spare bedroom.

If people become violent because they are drunk, they are intrinsically violent people.

Used to be able to get Lowenbrau on draught in some Bristol pubs, and that stuff was pretty potent. Got the nickname of loopyjuice. If you wanted anything much stronger, it was cans of Special Brew. Horrible stuff.

I realise that most Stella drinkers don't beat their wives. Probably. ;)

Special Brew- you have to be pizzed before you can drink that stuff. When I was in my teens, Skol 1080 was slightly more palatable.

Tried a drop of Glemnoranjie ;ast night, which one of my stepsons bought me for my birthday, and it's very smooth and palatable.
Going to enjoy slowly working my way through this bottle.

A free bottle of Rioja left for us, compliments of the owner of property we are renting.

As always, a glass of my home made white, with for a change - a sweet red and yellow peppers and mushroom omelette, fried cubed potatoes and peas.

Yesterday afternoon, I put another 23L batch on to ferment, because I am down to my last 9 bottles. Always a worrying time, waiting for the fermentation to start, but it started around 4pm this afternoon. Around 10 days, and it will be ready to 'kill', 2 more days and it will be clear and ready for the bottling process.
