What are you having for breakfast?

I keep telling the wife she needs extra D!;)

But on a serious note, we have a family friend who was in hospital in a coma on a ventilator for 3 weeks. When he recovered they discharged him with vitamin D tablets.

Nothing to do with breakfast really but hoping those that read this get a heads up.

Vitamin due for many is on a low due to home working. It can massive impacts on your general health inc pains, breathing and falling ill to colds etc
Get it checked and more often than not the gp will tell you to take an over the counter higher dose during the winter or to build up - if very low then you will get prescriptions - I know of several people very low on vit D inc my OH as people with darker skin absorb less sun than lighter skin and WFH has made matters works
Thanks

Btw, you will only really find out if you are low on D and by how much by having a blood test done it can be done privately and via home test kit if you wish only costs about 40 pounds

people who eat butter or fortified spreads ingest D.
It is fat-soluble and also found in oily fish, red meat, liver and egg yolks
Some breakfast cereals are fortified
Milk contains a little.

people who expose their skin to sunlight manufacture it

people who don't are at particular risk of shortage.

In some places, rickets has returned to the UK.

A high strength tab every week or so keeps levels up, doesn't have to be daily. D2 half life is less than D3 but still fair. I had a wide spectrum test and my D was on the floor. Partner got C19 and I didn't. So - proof it works - as said by me...;)

I am on........Amlodipine.
I've just been put on Amlodipine - 5mg. I'm only on day 4 but the pharmacist asked me if they were the first time I've been prescribed them. When I said it was, she said she'll phone me up in a couple of weeks to see how I'm getting on with them. I've never had that before - what's she expecting to happen?

Nothing, but many meds have side effects, some mild, others moderate and in extremely rare cases, takers can suffer extreme side effects. These are listed in the leaflet in the pack.

She will report any side effects you experience.

I am told that this is what pharmacists should do every time you are given a POM that you have not taken before, but not all of them do it.

An important fact many are ignorant about:

Being in the sunshine from behind a window does not provide vitamin D., fact!! Every doc I've spoken to were not aware buut these docs were older and possibly younger docs are aware as this problem of vit D takes off again not helped by staying indoors.

Please feel free not to thank me.

:) :)

Foods you can eat to help lower your BP are live natural yogurt (contains potassium which helps with the excretion of sodium).
Others are walnuts (contain Alpha linoleic acid that helps reduce high BP) and hibiscus tea.

Although I have to add that if you are taking hydrochlorothiazide (a diuretic used to treat hypertension), you should not drink hibiscus tea as there could be an interaction. Talk to your GP for more information.

How many Doc's have you spoken to and how did you shoehorn vitamin D into the conversation? I bet they felt more educated after speaking with you on the subject. Did they thank you profusely?
