I saw an interesting comment earlier.

Usually it costs billions, with the most modern giant warships, helicopter gunships, thousands of men, missiles, maybe an aircraft carrier.

But now it can be done quite cheaply.

What does it cost to (fail to) defeat them?

It reminds me of of barefoot rice farmers defeating the United States. Despite huge destruction.

It doesn't cost much

The hardest part is getting your ship in to position. Without crushing your neighbour.

Yes I read that, my guess is that there has been some dumbing down in the reporting. It's quite common for helm control to be computer controlled and they often have overrides to prevent drive damage. It looked more like Forward, wouldn't engage rather than full reverse was engaged. I very much doubt this is hard wired, to a point where the connectors could be wrongly connected.

The new aircraft carrier was in the habit of breaking down or leaking every time it got past the Isle of Wight.

They have both had problems with leaky props/shafts. It's an age old problem.

How do you keep the water out on a sealed shaft. In this case two 33 tonne 22ft diameter props with shaft surface area (I am guessing) of around 4-6M. I'm suprised they haven't switched to electric directional pod drive (cruise liner style), but guess they cannot get the speed. These are incredibly fast vessels for their size.

Defeating the USA ??? :ROFLMAO:

Also Afghanistan - I doubt if the Russians were helping as others did when they tried.

They stopped destroying them with bullets (unsuccessfully) and started destroying them with sanctions. Today it's probably the most capitalist communist country on the planet.
