What is this mysterious device? Mosquito deterrent, Cat scarer, or some sort of long range sensor?

So not long ago I joined a "not so cheap health club" that also has a rather nice hotel.

The other day I noticed that the hotel has a number of the following devices around it what appear to be around 4-6 meters off the ground.

Now at first I carefully approached it, in case I was going to be painfully blasted with high frequency sound. (Thought it might of been a high frequency deterrent/cat scarer type device)

Well I did not hear anything, I am guessing it is now some sort of ultrasonic movement sensor or something similar.

The red lights on it (6 in total, 2 illuminated in photo) also flashed in a very peculiar fashion.

Update: I know know it is likely a Mobotix M12D CCTV cam from Mobotix, but what a odd monstrosity. Never seen a CCTV cam like it before; certainly scary looking!

So now you've been recorded stealthily approaching a security camera with a wary and suspicious look on your face... :ROFLMAO:

Looked that these around 10 years ago.... The £2000 price tag was a bit .... When I win the lottery ! Lol

And my iPhones camera pointing at the darn thing, hope I've been lost in all the days footage.

Also, how do Mobotix compare against the makes like Axis.

Digital storage is so cheap these days they could store recordings for a long time, if they wanted to.

Best make sure you've always got an alibi, for the next few months, JIC... :ROFLMAO:

Well at least it was a phone I had in my hand and not a brick; that would make me look really suspicious!

Even with PIR trigged motion detection, don't really care tbh. What else they gonna see other than a odd person (me) looking at it and taking a photo.

It may be a clever ploy.

Perhaps with a normal looking camera, anyone up to no good might hide their face.

With this odd looking thing they may look at it before realising, thus revealing their identity.
