Hello all, we’ve just bought a new house. It’s a modern “doer upper” so I suspect I’ll be asking a few questions on here.

We’re trying to wire our ring door bell but cannot find the transformer anywhere! Not on the fuse box or in that cupboard, not in the garage, near the door. No where! Unless it’s for show does anyone know where else we can look?

Also *see image* there’s this unswitched plate in our hall way about 2 foot from the front door close to the ceiling. We’ve taken the plate off and it’s got 4 loose wired in there. Any ideas what this is for?

The transformer/power supply for a door bell will usually be either near the consumer unit or near the door.
Other than that, we cannot tell you where it is or even if there is one at all.

Up above in loft or under the floor if there is a room above is another place.
Find out which fuse circuit it's on by switching fuse off may give a clue.
Will also prove bell is powered by the mains as won't work without power

Is the existing bell push wired ?

If not, it may have been a wireless bell where it is battery operated and the “chime” can be moved around the house without connecting wires.

Wired bell chimes often used to have 4 x C cells in the 'bell' housing. They lasted years and years. Take the cover off to reveal.
Possibly.

Thanks everyone it looks like a very old one to be fair and looks like the bell has just not been removed
