Hi All,
I hope you are doing well in these strange times.
I am looking for a replacement gearbox for my Audi A4 B6 gearbox code HES to be precise.
I cannot get a new part, I can source a refurbished unit from abroad but it's going to be like £1000 so £2k for the repair minimum.
There is also one expert in UK who wants £1100 for fixing the existing unit.
Various websites I submitted my searches. (Removed - mod)
I have checked eBay and FB Marketplace but I reckon inexperienced car parts sellers just name it incorrectly so when I search for HES nothing comes up. I also on eBay got some results for HES gearbox for BMW Series 3 I believe - not sure if this is the same part.
Some breakers put the quotes but then it's either hard to get hold of them or their practice is to hook you so you pay X amount by card and wish for the best. It can take weeks before this can be completed.
I quickly got quoted for a gearbox very close to my location but then it turned out the donor car was from an accident (a flying car) and the gearbox is damaged as well.
So I have quotes for used units (salvaged, from donor cars) ranging between £300 and £700 - 3 to 6 months guarantee.
Refurbished units £1000-1100 - 24 months guarantee.
And the whole process starts to resemble a goose chase.
Let me know if there is any other place or way that I should go to make progress.
These are the pictures of the existing gearbox and I got the gearbox code from service book.
