Why is debris falling down my walls?

I live in a ground floor flat, we don’t have chimneys, no attic, just one flat above me. I can clearly hear lots of stuff falling down the inside of my walls… lots of it? What can it be, it’s crashing down? It’s been going about 3 hours now.

Perhaps squirrels or nesting birds are up there in the eaves and are nest building?
