has anyone had such a need?

i'm looking at potentially having to replace our samsung fridge freezer as its getting stupidly noisy (i'm convinced its the compressor)

looking around, i'm seeing wifi enabled fridge freezers, the sales pitch says

"Download the app and you can change the temperature settings or quickly freeze items when you’re on-the-go. So you can always keep tabs on your food, wherever you are."

is this really necesary? it seems like just adding a feature for the sake of it.

on a tumble dryer / washing machine i can sort of see the point, if it pings you a notification to tell you its finished, most washing machines and tumble dryers are in utility rooms these days and out of site out of mind.

but i cant see the need to control anything with an app on your phone,

I can see the appeal to disabled people, or those that need it. I just looked for one without, they’re still available (y)

Next thing will be a WiFi robot that puts the food into the fridge freezer for you when you are on the go.

i cant see how it would help someone disabled,

you still have to open and close the door manually. all you can do via the app is to adjust the settings, how many people adjust the settings on their fridge/freezer on a regular basis.

i'll get an appliance without, i just thought it a strange thing to add as a feature, and wondered if others shared my view of it being pointless

Perhaps a wife app could let someone know if the temp of a fridge rises above certain limits, allowing them to adjust it or be warned that imminent failure is coming?

Being pinged by a phone app that the washing machine has finished could be quite useful if your in a wheelchair and find it hard to get downstairs to the kitchen etc.

Myself I don't really want any wifi appliances in case the toaster hackers burn my bread :)

The only useful thing could be to turn the freezer / fridge temp down when you are on the way back with a load of shopping?

I have just bought a Samsung American fridge freezer - Non wifi!

Is the compressor on yours out of warranty?

The fridge freezer was left by the previous owners, I think it's quite old, and well out of warranty.

Rsh1nhsw is the model

Looks like they came out around 2008. Hope mine can last 10years+!

Might be worth a look? They are very heavy and awkward to just pull out though...

Decided to pull it out, turns out it was one of the pipes exiting the compressor was vibrating. Bent the pipe slightly, and now noise has gone. Looks like the compressor has been replaced in the past aswell. So a bit of a result
