It make sense to take rescued people to the nearest point of medical aid, which happened to be France.

Also Sir Kier has agreed to take more Asylum Seekers from France in exchange for some failed applicants to be returned to France.

There is 'no change of policy or approach' and it was 'just the way the operation played out'. Said someone in the know.

The problem with inhaling water, is it irritates the lungs and causes "secondary" drowning as the lungs fill with fluid.

Not to mention the English Channel is a pretty disgusting place for a swim.
 
Not the first British vessel to engage in SARs in French waters and rescue people back to France.

usually they are transferred to local vessels, but I guess here time was of the essence.
