Windows 10 to 11 ??

We have Windows 10 on the computer

Is it worth changing to Win11 ?

Whats involved for a old novice

There are increased system requirements for 11, so an older machine that can run 10 may not be able to run 11: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Windows_11

My personal view is that while security patches are essential, functional upgrades are a pain in the arse. For every new feature that you like, there will be two old features that you liked and have now been removed.

Unless you need something specific on the new version, it's not worth the effort.
 
Wait until October 2025 (at least) before upgrading! When Windows 7 support ceased in January 2020 I reluctantly upgraded to Windows B10. Unless things change in the interim, I will have to replace my desktop PC and my laptop in order to run Windows 11, so no way will I voluntarily upgrade!
 
I have upgraded to win 11 at work. I don't see any significant difference except for desktop design. One more thing, on a right click now there are some new options available, maybe hard to use to it. Generally speaking, Windows 11 works fine and there isn't something you should avoid upgrading.

As someone said already, you'll need new hardware. At home, I can't upgrade.
 
Win 11 has some hardware requirements, if your machine does not meet those requirements it will not install (however there are ways around this), best to keep using the latest version of Win 10 until 2025.
 
While updates are available for WIN10 i don't see the point - never should've let the XP die off, IMO.

The built in Android would be handy. My laptop complained about something when I tried to install Win 11, so I gave up. Just run the compatibility check and as I expected it says compatible. Looking in settings/update it says not compatible.
 
I managed to get the install working, until it failed at an error, which I managed to circumvent by restarting the install again, but as the admin. Until it again failed complaining 'win 11 upgrade error we couldn't update the reserved partition' - The EFI partition.

A bit of research suggests that is due to the EFI partition being full / too small, at 100Mb. Next on the disc is the GPT reserved partition, then C: where my data etc. it. I managed to find a free util, able to reduce the size of C:, so their was 200Mb free space ahead of it, but I got stumped on how to move the GPT, to enable me to expand the EFI partition.

In the sense Microsoft don't issue updates for XP any longer. By all means indulge your nostalgia for old computer games but i wouldn't recommend connecting to the internet on a computer using XP.
