The main problem: terminal codes correlation

The case [note: all 3 wires are RED]:

1) Old switch has terminal codes: Common, 2 and 3 with common taking 2 wires and 2 taking 1; 3 is closed

2) New DIMMER switch has terminal codes: wavy line with an arrow through it, and L2

How to correlate terminals?

Here's an educated guess;

Assuming only one light fitting!

1) Most likely terminal "common" would be active with active loop to other devices/switches (2 wires).
Terminal "2" being switch wire to light fitting (assuming only one light fitting).

2) Terminal "wavy line with an arrow through it" is most likely light dimmer active and terminal "L2" is output from dimmer.

2 wires in "common" must be kept together.

Dimmer will most likely work if connections are reversed.

You could always test the dimmer on a table lamp.
