Hi guys,

I hope you can help.

First of all, I researched a lot of info on the topic but before I proceed I want to be 1000% certain how exactly wire it.

So, I need a simple yet smart room thermostat that I will be only using to switch the central heating on and off from my combi-boiler and maybe changing the temperature. I don't need any of those super duper smart, garage door opening, dog feeding and lullaby singing smart thermostats as I won't be using 99% functions in them so things like Nest or Hive are an overkill.

I found something like that - https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product...&pf_rd_p=6e878984-68d5-4fd2-b7b3-7bc79d9c8b60

Or this one - https://www.amazon.co.uk/Decdeal-Programmable-Thermostat-Temperature-Touchscreen/dp/B07GSXZ7KG?th=1

Please feel free to suggest an alternative smart room thermostat if you believe this one is not up to the task.

Here's the wiring diagram for my Vokera 29C:

Can you guys help with correct wiring?

Thanks in advance

Hi, thanks for your reply but I will do that all myself. I just wanted to have someone eyeball over the wiring just to be 100% certain. Have you Chris_W had a chance to look at it?

So you’re going to perform 26.9 checks? Wiring looks simple enough.

Yes, 26 (7) – (10). So how should it be wired because there are a few options including plugging in into CN5 and bypassing the built-in clock but I'd like to avoid this one?

No need to open anything gas or combustion related, two screws outer case, one screw beneath control box lowers the box toward you.

Don’t know those stats but if they’re simple on/off switching make sure the contacts are voltage independent.

one way, don’t wire into CN5, replace the link in the two turquoise wires to the left of the control box and set the boiler timer to 24 hours.

Second way, remove only CN5 and room stat wires into there.

If you leave the clock connected with either of these methods the engineer will still have access to service reminders, any alarms on the clock display plus information when range rating or flue gas analysis.

Thanks VC, wasn’t sure on this boiler, as i couldn’t see any 1st and second panel in mi’s.

As I work for Vokera I ought to do an advertisement although generally I think it bad form.

The Vokera BeSMART control will not look as sexy as most stats but will do far more; connected by OpenTherm it will run the boiler a little more efficiently, you can monitor boiler condition from the room themrmostat and app even reset a lockout on the boiler, about £120 I guess. To me that's far more important than flashing lights.

Thanks a lot for your help. Much appreciated.

The 2nd stat, this one - https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B07GSXZ7KG/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 - is dry contact. Not sure if that's what you meant by voltage independent?

I'll go with your first suggestion - replace the link in the two turquoise wires to the left of the control box and set the boiler timer to 24 hours

I take it 1mm 3 core flex will suffice?

Gotcha, and could you explain a bit what you meant exactly by 'voltage independent' in your previous reply?

Voltage independent some times called voltage free, or low voltage compatible, all thermostats are simply a switch, some can only switch 240V some are voltage free so switch whatever the voltage coming from the boiler, this is what you require, do nat make any links that you have seen on other posts, your boilers two switching wires are connected to com 7NO on whichever stat you choose, make sure that what you choos e has voltage free switching or you will damage your boiler

Oh yeah, I thought this was a reference to something else like separate mains and then the thermostat just being connected to the boiler.

And can you suggest any fairly simple smart room thermostat that would be suitable?

Also, volt-free switching is shown on Fig 40 of the screenshot I attached. One wire goes to CN5 but what is that 'G' on the other/red wire?

No plug on the Vision, you have to cut it off and wire it. About £35 from wolseley and easy to convert to OpenTherm also on video on YouTube. Great video, what a clever bloke.
