I have a service contract with WB for this boiler. Would a scaled up secondary heat exchanger be covered?
For some years now our radiators have been getting hot in summer. In 2018 they changed the 3 way valve head. In 2019 they changed the complete 3 way valve. It still did it.
In 2020 a drafted in engineer who could only do the service said, probably the heat exchanger is blocking up with limescale, the boiler is working harder than usual to heat the water and the excess heat has to be dumped into the heating circuit. That made some sense.
It seems to us that the water takes a lot longer to get up to temperature, but the flow rate is good. If it was scaled up wouldn't we notice a reduced flow rate?
The boiler dates from 2003, we bought the house in 2009 and as far as I know it's still the original secondary heat exchanger, so now approaching 18 years old and we live in a very hard water area. It's been a very busy house since 2009 as we foster as well as our own children.
Thanks for any advice you can give.
