Hello DIYers,

I had a kitchen fitted by a chap who turned out to not be a kitchen fitter... Or, indeed, any good at fitting kitchens.

Three months on, I've noticed the filler (Colorfill) in one of the laminate worktop joins is cracking and flaking away. Is this something I can put right or will it need a whole new worktop? There's no water damage or ingression yet so I'd like to patch it if possible. Can I just dig out and replace the Colorfill? Is it easy stuff to work with, or will it just crack again?

Thanks in advance!

how much filler are we talking?
has the joint been clamped correctly underneath?
a correctly cut corner shouldn’t need any colorfil, you’ve not got much choice really other than rake it out gently and refill.

Thanks Benny.

It's around 1mm. I'm not sure how to tell if it has been correctly clamped as I have no experience of fitting worktops. I'll do some research and find out!

just a suggestion , 1mm is a big gap for a worktop, you could get some waterproof woodworking pva and fill the joint with it first . run some pva over the top of the joint and see if it soaks in .

Check underneath the worktop and you should be able to see the bolts pulling the joint together.
