You want how much to re-do my bathroom?!

I requested 2 quotes to get my extremely old bathroom done in North West London from 2 seperate Polish guys.

Here is a photo of my bathroom:

Here is a drawing I did in Paint:

The left & right wall is 2.25m high x 1.75m wide
The length where the window & door is 2.25m high x 1.25m wide

The first guy I requested a quote to completely tile the whole room from floor to ceiling (just the wall, not the floor), inc behind the radiator, with these tiles:

He said it is 2 weeks work & £1500 inc the materials except tiles. He said the walls are plasterboard & clay & need a lot of work before laying the tiles.

It is a 1900 Victorian house.

The second guy said it is £1300 & he thinks he can finish it in 1 week with 2 of them working. Again said the walls need a lot of work before he can lay the tiles.

I asked if the bath & sink could be moved to the following position:

He wants an extra £300 for this.

I also want to get a large mirror put on the wall but I want the mirror "embedded" in the wall & the tiles cut around it (a mirror approx 1.5m wide x 1m high).

What prices should I be looking at for the work I want? For such a tiny room I really am shocked at how much it costs! Am I being naive or just picking the wrong workmen?

Well it's sort of against forum rules to ask for prices, as there are far too many variables involved. That said, the figures you have been quoted seem very reasonable indeed.

If those 6x6 tiles are original they are a pain to remove, the walls will end up back to the brickwork or studwork so will need plastering or plasterboarding.

For west london including materials, rubbish disposal etc its a bargain.

I'd charge you more but then again I pay tax, am VAT registerd, insured etc.

if you're going back to the studs and effectively gutting the place, you should update your specs, -wetroom, ufh, water jets etc, for a bit of extra buck on your quotes can get a lot more bang :)

Thanks for the replies, sorry I did not realise that I was not supposed to ask for quote advice here.

The guy I am using started work yesterday & has taken off the existing tiles:

Quite bad walls which need to be completely re-done!

It is a really tiny bathroom & the main bathroom of the house so using it as a wet room doesn't really appeal to me (I still have an additional seperate toilet and another bathroom at the back of the kitchen).

There were a few additions I wanted to make as it is the main bathroom so I had my usual plumber come round to take a look. He suggested moving the bath 90' along the window wall, adding a toilet to the room & moving the sink to the opposite wall (so the toilet & sink are on the right as you walk in along the wall where the bath currently is). This will cost £500 for him to do (plus the cost of the toilet if I re-use the existing bath & basin).

It should be complete in 2 weeks & will post another pic when it's done :)
