Hi I have a damp problem on the ground floor height of a chimney breast.
There's an air brick directly above that area on the 1st floor.
Is it possible that rain is driving in and causing the damp ?
Maybe it should have a hood on it ?
Thanks
First time poster here.
My apartment windows have obvious signs of deterioration, water stain and wall peeling off.
I'm very convinced it's a water ingress issue as it's prevalent in the whole building, especially the way the stain looks suggests to me it's from the structure side, not the...
Hi, I am trying to better understand the flooring in my home and hope some expert advice will clear things up. I have dug down the side of my Edwardian house that was covered with pebbles and found the air bricks way below ground level. My internal floors are concrete and means I wouldn't...
Hi there,
I was wondering if someone might be able to help me.
I've moved into an old rental terraced property with a lot of black mould problems. We're pretty good with wiping condensation, never drying clothes indoors, cooking with lids on extractor fans etc, but it's pretty consistently...
Hi,
I am currently refurbing a Victorian terrace. Plasterer skimmed the middle floor bedrooms on 25/11 (now over 6 weeks ago) and it still hasn't fully dried out- see pics. It's a mixture of. External and internal walls which aren't drying.
Property is unoccupied while I'm refurbing and the...
Hi,
I'm an inexperienced first time buyer. November moved in to the house to find damp plaster on 1st floor bedroom wall (external).
Based on the description below and attached pics, what might be likely causes of the damp, and what repairs should I realistically expect? Are there any specific...
I bought a mid terrace Victorian house about a year ago. It seems the previous owners indulged themselves in a significant amount of bodge work.
An area in the center of the house has been showing damp since I moved, which has progressively got worse (images attached). The damp appears to track...
I am somewhat out of my depth with a house renovation and would massively appreciate some advice regarding the kitchen floor...
There has been subsidence at some point in the house and the concrete kitchen floor was uneven to the tune of around 50mm from high end to low end. I ripped off the...
My porch floor is particleboard which is sopping wet, rotten.
it is tiled on top.
I need to replace it asap , I'm not sure why it's so wet.
Maybe I need to treat the joists too ?
If so what with ?
What's the most water resistant ?
Should I replace with wooden floorboard ?
Marine ply ?

Hello,
First time forum user, I'm looking for some advice on whether a chemical DPC is necessary.
It's a circa 1900 mid terrace house. The survey showed high damp readings on the front external wall and the recommendation is the standard chemical DPC and replastering with a waterproof sand...
We have a no cavity Victorian semi which we have always had a problem with cold outside walls attracting condensation. The inside of the wardrobe cupboard wall facing outside is pretty wet, making clothes damp and leading to mould. Ditto for bedroom wall. Having a log burner installed, warming...
Hello
Not sure what this is. Looks like damp. It is occuring at the juction between an extension and the original house. It occurs on both sides of the room where the extension meets the original house. It is only where it meets, not in the extension or the original house.
Is this damp. What...
Hi all
I hope you're all keeping well
This is my first post and I'm hoping to get some advice on a case of extreme condensation in my loft. I've read the various threads I could find, but wanted to get your take on the solutions I've been offered by several roofers before taking the plunge.
I...
Following replastering of my wall I have waited five months for the wall to dry out. This will sound like a crazy amount of time but I have had a slight damp patch where the timber has been historically soaked with water ingress. The exterior brickwork was fixed prior to replastering but it...
Hi, just signed up and wondering if anyone here can help with this one…
We live in a 1920s solid-walled house (red brick, cement rendered) that has a tendency towards dampness in the basement. Generally it’s all in check but we do get the odd issue here or there.
When we moved in we had gas...
Hello,
Please see attached image.
Recently I've start to see damp/condensation in the corner of ground floor living room. It's around 100 yrs old house. Walls are brick walls. It doesn't seem to be anything obvious from outside though. Touching walls around damp area seem to be wet a bit...
I have an outbuilding which was a pair of single garages with a hallway between them. A previous owner has gone some way towards converting the building to living accommodation. Bricked up the garage doors, insulated the roof (mostly), plastered one garage out and 2 walls on the other, wired but...
I’m interested in a house in Scotland but home report flags several structural issues with many items in category 2. Should I offer on it? How much do you think renovations will cost to fix all the issues? I’m totally clueless about renovations. Below are some infor about the house:

My wife and I have moved into a 60's fixer upper which has barely been touched in 30+ years.
With the cold setting in, our porch is starting to develop a lot of condensation and damp (photos are from when we moved in). It's UPVC with no insulation and there's just a very thin stud wall with a...
Hi,
I've just ripped out the kitchen in the house I moved in to a few months ago . Behind the units on the external wall there's mold, but only low level.
Some of the skirting was also rotten, and the some of the units were moldy on the back boards (inside and outside the carcass)
I know the...
