We had an extension built a few years ago - this resulted in the concrete floor of the extension abutting the existing wooden suspended floor in two rooms. The kitchen floor works perfectly - but the back room was/is a problem.
I recall the activity at the time when they built the back room...
Hi all,
Coated my wood floor with Osmo Wood Wax Extra Thin Hardwax Oil this morning. Waited an hour as it was dry and the wood had sucked up the oil and applied a second coat, as per instructions. Now however, it's an uneven finish which doesn't look great. When I do a 'scratch' test on the...

Hi,
Woke up this morning to a squishing sound underneath my floorboards - turns out the water inlet for the washing machine was leaking.
I have laminate floor boards -> underlay boards (5mm I think) -> membrane -> tiles (I believe it's tiled in this area, not concrete).
From what I can see...
Hello,
I am working out if the job of replacing sagging chipboard flooring with new chipboard or plywood is beyond me or not. Not very handy with real stuff as spend most of my time fiddling with computers.
My house was built in the late 80s and some of the flooring is starting to sag a bit...
Hi all,
I am now having a BIG PROBLEM with the nails! They are going in to the boards nicely but are spiting the joists. Not sure it it is safe to continue as I don't want to weaken the whole floor.
Should I pilot hole? I already tried with a 3mm bit and it still split. Perhaps I should...
Hi Guys,
I have a problem! I am making a floor with reclaimed scaff boards into 2x5 joists.
I love the look and apparent superior grip of cut brad nails but can only find them in 65mm. That would be perfect for normal floors but as the scaff boards are 35mm (after sanding), I am concerned that...
Hi.
I've recently lifted the carpet which the previous owner installed in my house. To my surprise, there were some really nice looking floorboards. My wife would like them sanded and varnished.
Unfortunately, I found some spindly arms apparently growing up between some boards. At a glance...
Is there a reason why forbo nairn insist on using their own adhesive to stick down marmoleum other than just wanting to sell you their product. Can you actually use any flooring adhesive? I read that you shouldn't use any solvent based adhesives with marmoleum. thanks
Hi, I am renovating a bungalow and am in process of doing the kitchen. I am going to lay Wickes laminate flooring and I want to know if I need to put plywood down first?

hi guys and gals,
I have just had a Forbo Luxury vinyl tile floor fitted and Eurocol 540 adhesive was used.
There is now a slight discolouration appearing where the tiles meet, which I guess is the adhesive.
any suggestions on how to clean/remove which won't damage the tiles?
cheers for any...
Hi, I'm considering plywood for flooring (the main floor - not subfloor) throughout the ground floor of our new house. Considering buying sheets and cutting it into floorboards & treating it myself.
Should I go for hardwood ply or softwood ply, and any particular grade and thickness? (I'm...
Hi,
The lino flooring in a large room is too low, resulting in metal floor fixtures protruding 2mm from the surface.
The height of the metal floor fixtures cannot be changed, and it has been sugggested that I have a diminishing strip to cover the protruding fixture. I'd ideally like to avoid...

Evening all,
Probably a stupid question to people in the know but i have hit a brick wall when trying to work out what my floor is made of. Its a 1940's ex council house.
What i'm after knowing is: what are these tiles? What is their purpose? Do i need them?
I only ask so i don't go taking...
Hi all,
First post on here but this forum has helped me on many occasions with its useful information, advice and of course general banter!
I am in the middle of a large house extension and renovation and it seems my builder and the glazing company have got their wires crossed and what I...
Hi
Perhaps someone might be able to assist me pls.
I will be putting in underfloor heating in a flat/apartment. The rubble has been cleared from between the joists. Insulation will be put in-between the joists. Then aluminium plates, resting on the joists, but sitting between the joists will...
I foolishly damaged a 3x4 area of my wall to wall carpet in my living room by washing it repeatedly and not letting it dry before I put a chair mat on it. I now think there is mould growing and various treatments I tried have not reduced the smell.
There is some leftover carpet that I found...
Problem:
Tiling a kitchen floor.
Half is covered in bitumen (from parquet floor). Half is a new concrete slab.
There is a 35mm level difference across the floor and is fairly lumpy.
Possible solution No.1?:
Use latex self-levelling compound such as arditex na.
BUT: I am slightly worried...
