Hi I've changed the kitchen socket due to 1 of the switches breaking, wouldn't let me switch it off.
Since I've changed the socket the left socket doesn't seem to work, if I flick the on switch I get power for a brief second then nothing.... Any ideas?
I've since tried the old socket and still...
Hi,
We had a structural engineer visit and tell us the wall we wanted removed was load baring. It was a 3m wall between kitchen and dining room, front to back, parallel with joists. He said it was supporting the timber frame wall above (2.2m in length, directly above) and a joist sitting...
Hey there
We're getting ready to start our extension project, and the last big thing we need to decide on is the kitchen layout.
Key requirements:
Built-in larder fridge and freezer
Single Oven
Microwave Oven + Plate Warmer or another single Microwave oven - TBC
Larder storage - atleast one...
Hey folks!
I've some really old taps in our kitchen that I would like to replace.
I'm sure a super basic question, but could someone please tell me how these are connected? I don't want to jump in cutting or turning and not have what I need to finish the job... or make it more complicated than...
Hi
I have a kitchen mixer tap which allows the top part to pull out as a hose (like american sinks).

Hey all,
I had a hot/cold kitchen skink tap changed over to a mixer around 6 months ago, I've had to clean what looks like rust from the base of the tap almost daily.
I've attached an image below.
Is this likely to be the tap or something within the pipe system at fault?
Hi,
I’m currently fitting B&Q goodhome caraway kitchen base Units.
I have a 1000 base unit which will be fitted as a straight corner and be used for a sink.
Within their instructions they say to move the top back rail down the unit and cut out the top of the back panel if fitting a sink or...
Just fitted some LVT in the kitchen and had to cut under some upstairs/side panels to slide the boards under.
Am about to fit the plinths (which I've painted the edges of to give some protection against spills and mopping) but am left with a bare edge on the upstand.
Don't want to silicon it...
We are renovating our ground floor kitchen in Edwardian (1930s) house in London. No extensions/structural/notifiable (as far as we know) work planned, just new flooring and kitchen units.
Whilst pulling up the old kitchen and flooring, the builder has highlighted that the current flooring is...
Hello and nice to meet you.
I am trying to fix some burns from the worktop but i would like to be sure for
its type. I have uploaded two photos. Let me know if you need better photos.
Thanks in advance!
Hey all
Had a neff cooker hood installed which is ducted to exhaust outside. It's quite high up the wall with low ceilings so the stainless steel casing needs cutting down to around 40cm. Our electrician is saying we need to use the bit with the side vents, but I don't think we need the side...
Hi all
I've been trying to find the source of a cold draft in my kitchen after taking off the plinth below my sink I have found a hole in the concrete floor (where the cold air is coming from), and it has a pipe going into it. I have a few questions...
1. Does anyone know what this pipe is? I...
Hi all,
I’m refurbing my kitchen and currently at the stage of an empty room with holes all over the walls I thought this would be a good opportunity to get my electrics all sorted before the units go in.
Anyway, I want to add under cabinet LED that ideally will be powered from a switch...
Hello!
A friend has just moved into a flat that has a kitchen that is ‘tired’. Replacing the kitchen or even worktop is not an option.
Does anyone have any suggestions on how I (as a diyer) could refresh the worktops? Vinyl looks a bit too thin, but is there anything similar available that is...
Hi.
I'm wondering if anyone out there has any experience of quartz worktops in their kitchens?
I was listening to the Reclining Pair podcast the other day, where the host was talking about fitting the kitchen in his newly (self) built extension.
He was saying that quarts has energy holding...
Hello All.
This maybe a silly Q as I have little knowledge of UK electrics.
I am refurbing the kitchen and am looking at obtaining a induction hob, a microwave/frill and a oven.
The hob is fused 13amp, microwave is fused 16amp and oven is fused 15amp.
Can the hob be on the normal circuit and...
Hi,
I’m replacing an MDF kitchen end panel which has blown due to a leaking washing machine. There appears to be silicone in-between the top of the original panel and the silestone worktop. Is this just general clear silicone or is there a specific brand/type I need to purchase? Thanks in...
Hello all,
After some advice please.
Currently have a 32A switch on my consumer unit with a 6mm T&E cable going to a cooker switch in the kitchen - unsure what appliance this fed before.
I am wanting to add an electric induction hob and oven that I understand both need to be wired into a...
Ok so our new kitchen is almost fitted but the worktop supplier said there should be a gap between worktop and appliances - not sure why our carpenter didn’t keep the end panels between units as oversize, instead he trimmed them down to line up with them! He actually says he trimmed them to...
Hi Everyone,
This thread has been invaluable to me the last few weeks.
We have had an ongoing, 5 month saga with a B&Q kitchen fitting. The first fitters that attended were clearly not qualified and did virtually everything wrong. This needed to be assessed and refitted. The work included not...
