Hi,
I want to put up a stud wall on the 1st floor.
Do I have to screw the bottom or top stud plate into the joist below/above or can I just attach to the bottom stud into floor board and the top stud into the ceiling plaster?
The joist run at right angle to the stud.
Thanks
Dee
Hi,
I’ve recently bought a new build house.
I’m looking to change a standard double panel 600mm x 600mm radiator to a vertical radiator which is 1800mm x 480 mm. The vertical radiator weighs around 45-50kg before water. I think the current one is probably only 20kg before water.
The current...
I’m looking to put some stud walls in my garage and need to move the control box (I’m assuming that’s not the right terminology but I’m clueless unfortunately with electrics) the switches and lights before I put my walls up.
My question is what sort of money would I be looking at having to...

Hi,
I am building a half stud wall that I will be covering with 12mm ply and then plasterboard, then adding skirting once it’s had a skim. I was wondering if I need to leave a gap at the bottom of either covering like you would on a masonry wall? I would think not to leave a gap for the ply, but...
I am going to be starting building a half stud wall this weekend. I have a suspended timber floor with a solid oak flooring on top. I have been given great advice on what materials and hardware to use. I will be fixing the sole plate to the floor with 12mm coach screws, and was wondering what...

Hi everyone,
I am in the process of changing my fireplace, I currently have the old style fireplaces with the chimney breast on the outside of the house so the wall is flush.
What I would like to do is create a recess for the TV - so in essence create a breast on the wall. I am wanting to put...
Hi Everyone, this is my first post, I hope someone will be able to help!
I have an unusual room in my flat and it's pretty large. I am aloud to install stud walls and would like to create another bedroom. I understand that if it's a habitable space, it will need another exit besides the door...
Hi All.
I plan to install internal french doors into a gap but I need to add some stud-work on either side and a header plate.
One side the stud wall will meet an existing wall at 90 deg so straightforward. However, the other side needs to join onto an existing section of wall. This...

Thanks.
Hi, hope you're all good.
Some friends and I are looking to lease an industrial unit for various hobby purposes. The unit is adjacent to a large storage area which is in continuous use, however we need to create a corridor that passes along both units by building a wall to make our unit secure...
Hi
My builder is almost at completion stage of doing major renovations at our property. We have noticed that one of the kitchen stud walls flexes quite a bit. They have now been plasterboarded and skimmed.
From closer inspection I seem to have noticed there are no noggins in between the stud...
I am researching putting a non-load bearing partition stud wall in a loft space (pitched roof construction).
I have read that if I were to specify a gypframe studwall then a deflection head is required (http://www.british-gypsum.com/technical-advice/faqs/020-what-is-a-deflection-head).
However...
hi,
I am renovating an old house which has a mixture of brick and timber stud walls with Lathe and plaster. Some day, I might like to do a loft conversion. To do this I'm pretty sure I'll need the stairwell to be a 'protected enclosure' will all walls having at least 30min fire resistance.
In...
