I'm replacing my old toilet and cistern.
The flooring is P5 moisture resistant chipboard.
The new toilet pan is not as high as the old one and needs to be raised by about 25mm.
I'm proposing to screw a piece of P5 chipboard (22mm thick) to the floor and fix the pan on top of it.
As an...
Hi all
We've been experiencing an intermittent smell from our downstairs toilet for the last few months. We've tried replacing the pan connector and have had a CCTV inspection on the drain, but the problem persists. Last week I removed the toilet again and disconnected the sink trap. Both have...
The question says it all really.
I have just put in a new toilet. Everything seems fine, but it does have a constant trickle into the bowl. It's hardly noticible... but I noticed and now can't unsee it.
Is there a simple fix for this? Is it something to do with the float?
Everything is brand new.
I plan to fit my first toilet in the next week or so and just studying the steps involved before I jump in.
I've noticed in a number of videos that some form of lubrication is often recommended for the interface between the toilet spigot and pan connector to ensure a proper fit. Back in my...
Hello
Started to notice a few of these large flies downstairs and today there are half a dozen all in the downstairs toilet mostly by the waste pipe.
Not seen this before but assume there is something around there causing this..
Ideas how best to deal with this?
Cheers
Hi, I have just moved into a house with a toilet that has a dual flush valve, the type that is screwed into the cistern lid with a plunger on the bottom. It seems to sit too low on the cistern and when I push it it only half flushes the toilet. If I remove it and then push the top of the flush...
I'm considering buying a WC that has the spigot 215mm set back from the cistern edge, but my soil pipe comes through the floor, next to the wall. Therefore I will require a standard 90-deg pan connector (e.g. McAlpine CON8) + extension piece (e.g. McAlpine CON-EXT). Will this in any way impact...
Having spent ages looking across the market, the Rak Summit seemed to the best-fit for my requirement. Thing is, I checked on TrustPilot and Rak get absolutely slated, with many complaining about flushing issues and poor quality ceramics; not specifically related to the Summit though i.e. many...
Hi,
We have had this toilet installed, but there is skirting board around the room. I was expecting the toilet to sit flush against the wall, but I didn't even think to ask about the skirting board.
Is cutting the skirting board where the toilet will be considered best practice? Is there a...
Hi
I’m renovating my new bathroom and wondering which brand should I go for?
In your experience which flush technology is better? Do they splash when flush? Quiet? Easy to broke / leaking? / Ceramic quality What’s your opinion?
I don’t like that some toilet require multiple flush, or even...
So I am hoping someone can help me with this?
We are currently renting our home and the landlord wants to sell it, so we are looking at problems the house has and trying to figure costs etc… to see if it’s worth our time and money. So… the toilet in the bathroom is on a stud wall with the...

I am replacing a traditional toilet with a Grohe frame and I need to replace the existing waste connection (see pic below) with the one that comes with the Grohe frame. The connector goes down into the concrete floor and I have no visibility of where it goes/ how it connects. If I just yank it...
Right so I recently moved into my council flat.
It has a wet room. Which has a shower, sink and a bog (toilet).
If water from the sink goes on the floor or if you **** on the floor next to the toilet, it will flow past the shower and towards the door…
Which obviously will cause issues.
i stuck...
I watched seven videos and read numerous instructions and none tell me what I need to know. Have removed both metal push buttons to reveal a central retaining screw between the two plungers which the buttons operate. All the instructions say to unscrew this screw to allow the lid to be removed...
Hi all,
We’d like a toilet downstairs, but there are some isues. Our drains are at the back and feed into the main sewer at the back of our garden, so the existing soil stack (and the new pipe) MUST be at the back (WC goes under the stairs).
Unfortunately, our foundation is solid concrete all...
Hi all, I have pretty much zero knowledge about plumbing just FYI.
I have three toilets in my house, a downstairs one, big bathroom one and an en-suite one.
There was a rattling noise coming from the downstairs toilet whenever the chain had been flushed and the cistern had refilled. I bought a...
Hi all
I am wanting to convert our downstairs bathroom (previous owners had council conversion due to immobility) back to a utility room. It has a kind of wet room floor and a large double shower tray that was in a walk in shower. The shower has been removed and for a quick fix we had our...
Just plumbing in a new downstairs WC in a small extension. Stud walls are up, water feed is connected up and ready to supply the toilet and washing machine but I've hit a bit of a problem working out how to deal with waste from the toilet...
The toilet will be backed up against the rear of the...
My Mum's toilet handle on the flush seems to be stiffening up?
Toilet seems to flush fine, but its stiff to pull down, and hardly rises back into place (its the old style lever type on the cistern)
Have included photos of the inside of the cistern.
I watched some DIY videos, which said to...
