300 Quid To Tile Small Bathroom?

any water damage to sub-floor?

lifting the WC typically means raising the FFL which could mean:

possible soil pipe issues eg. possibility of having to cut any CI soil pipe/hub?
simply moving an old WC might cause leaks between cistern and pan
remove and raise ped basin, an possibly have to adjust ped basin feed an waste connections
sometimes having to move a vanity
bath panel adjustments
cut the door for new FFL
new threshold details
possible skirting issues.
possible F & R rad pipe issues.

any self employed worker needs a min of £200/day - pretty soon it will be £250-£300/day. less than that an your paying the customer so you can work for them.

old building trade rules "there are no small jobs" an "never do anything for free"

I’ve managed to get a cheaper quote and agreed that the toilet should not be moved (to cut costs.)

The toilet was never tiled under, even when this place was built.

I’ve got a cheaper quote of another tiler that I’m happy with, and have agreed that the toilet should not be moved to cut costs. The toilet was always tiled around anyway from day one. There is no noticeable damage to subfloor.

How much is the new quote?

When the first guy suggested removing the pan, did you say "okay, then" or did you ask for a price without moving it, and he refused?

FWIW, I have just had a quote of the same, £300, to cut my hedges and trim a couple of Lleylandii (?). At least you won't need to tile again next year :)

My Inlaws paid just under the £300 mark for similar -hedges and a trimming few small trees. And yes -it comes around every year!

@hertsdrainage My whole building development is a ‘bodge.’ This seems to be a common and growing theme in the UK. It was always tiled around the toilet, even when built. @Fireman, I can’t remember precise quotes but he knocked 150 quid off for not removing toilet, and proposed a more economical solution for my kitchen that suffered slight water damage. I will receive detailed quotes in writing soon.

There was slight water damage in kitchen, 2 loose tiles and hairline grout cracks and the first tiler recommended replacing everything including sub floor and ripping up all the expensive porcelain tiles. New guy recommended a ‘patch up’ and suggested that ripping up everything is nuts.

Lets hope it lasts. sounds like it's being bodged to me! "PAY CHEAP, PAY TWICE....." not cutting costs if it fails if anything, will cost you more. Fingers crossed for you.
