Alarm - Full MOT - Asking for help.

That will be final test plus give it 6 months shelf life

Its old and I suspect many wont support it as they don't have the history, but local alarm companies need to be contacted to find out what options and prices they will offer if any.

Because of the the age of the system he may be better ...replacing the battery every 5 years , testing all the zones once a year or sooner, testing the bell every 3 months amd if any issues contact a local installer to repair ....

Well if he cant find anyone to take it on, he may well have to do the tests and then look at replacing the system if one or more parts fail.

is he really going to test the bell that regularly?

Update:

2 window shock sensors

1 front door contact

6 PIR's

2 Panic Buttons

Bellbox on front.

What would be a sensible replacement for this panel and system.

We don't want one that calls out or uses apps.

We have a strong and active community of retired people that are our friends in the surrounding houses (plus a dog).
If the alarm goes off - we will get a call from them.

No need for apps - I do not want something that can be eventually hacked. Simple solid alarm that will go off if there is an attempted break in.

What would you recommend please?

We might move within the next 18 months. Just need the alarm to work - and meet home insurance specs.

okay, home insurance specs are not based just on the alarm panel, but how it is installed.

The insurance may have very specific criteria ie installed to a certain grade and that would have to be certified and maintained to keep it certified or bells only. A system can be installed to a certain grade, but would usually require certification from an NSI or SSAIB company.

So if someone places a grade 1 contact on a grade 3 system, then system becomes grade 1.

A Texecom Premier Elite would be capable of what may be required along with the appropriate sensors and bell box.

Remember that the existing devices will not be graded .If you do require the system to insurance approved then all equipment would need to be replaced for a graded system.
If graded system is not required then just swap control panel, but I would also change the bell box.

Just get a basic service done , I can't see the point in replacing the system if your moving ! What it may cost you for a graded system upgrade is not going to offset your insurance savings

UPDATE:

Alarm battery last replaced 2016 - Tamper switch was bypassed - without telling us. Metal case earthing wire - was disconnected and hanging loose. No walk through test was done. Bell would go off as soon as you enter the house (delay was not programmed in).

Cost for basically doing the absolute minimum - and leaving us with an alarm bell that would instantly go off when we walked through the door - £90 + VAT.

I need your help - The installer has installed a number of Alarms on our street.

I am going to call him on this bull, and get him to do the full 10 year service - as should have been done previously - and to explain these serious lapses.

I don't want him pulling the wool over my eyes again.

I need to know exactly what he should be doing for this year Service - details / steps / and takeaways. I need him to feel that I have a secondary and third professional opinion - and that he'll get caught out if he cuts corners on this service again.

I'm asking members to help me put together a checklist to shove under his nose when he walks in.

I really appreciate any help with this, and all of your contributions thus far. I couldn't have figured any of this out myself - without your help.

How long have you been in the house ? Don't understand the no entry delay issue ? If you used the alarm wouldn't you have noticed the entry delay issue ?

Jesus christ its only a bloody alarm and your leaving soon anyway........ good job you are not getting the whole house rewired

Your photo shows that the incoming earth is connected to the block as well as the earth connected to your transformer.
You stated that the alarm was serviced 5 years ago ?
You say battery was replaced 2016 ?
Who changed the battery if last serviced 5 years ago ?

that's my thoughts ..but it may have just had a battery change and not a service , think the earth may be the panel lid earth ( spade connector may have come off )
