Baxi duotec GA 33 E53

At least it has helped us with one decision - we were 50/50 whether to continue the maintenance plan when it renews later this year (monthly cost is now over £40, will probably be more next year). The original reason for taking it out was simply because it would be Baxi maintaining it and we thought they would be better at first-time fixes (although we now also know that none of them like this particular model...)
While we may certainly have recovered this year's plan costs in parts and labour, we suspect that at least 3, probably 4, of the visits could have been avoided as it seems the wiring damage creating the E53 was probably caused during one visit.

Add to this that if any of the problems needed work to any parts of the flue or condensate outside the boiler itself (apparently the condensate pipe comes under "plumbing" not "boiler") we would still have to get a 3rd party out ..

So seems no sense in renewing the plan - local GSR (all the homes on this residential part started off with Baxi duotecs, many have now been replaced, mainly because of repeated E133 needing gas valve and PCB replacement) so the locals are all very familiar with the things.
And if it starts playing up again? Replacement time! (it is 10.5 years old now anyway).

go the main eco comppact which is clone of a mark 1 baxi 630 a very reliable boiler and cracking price with 5 year warranty or if you need more than 30kw go for the baxi duotec compact 36 with 7 year warranty or the baxi compact platinium with 10 years all the same boiler just paying extra for the warranty
 
Guess what? - now it's short-cycling when using the shower. Cannot modulate down. Temp display gets to 75, burner off, temp drops, burner on, back to 72, burner off, temp drops etc.
Was OK at shower end, as the shower simply compensated.
Will let Baxi know tomorrow that they have still not fixed it - and no, we do not want another visit. Given up.
Phoned local GSR, coming out tomorrow sometime to quote for a new boiler. I believe his choice will be Vaillant.. but at least the condensate pipe will get checked and replaced.

Sad - it was definitely developing a personality - not necessarily a good one, though.
 
Just formally accepted a quote from our local GSR for a new (Vaillant) boiler.
We're wondering if now a decision to spend the money and replace has been made, the Baxi will suddenly start working perfectly...:cry:
 
Just an update.
Naturally, the Baxi did start working (albeit not quite perfectly) once the deposit was paid....feel a bit guilty now about getting rid of it, but very pleased with the replacement, Vaillant Ecotech 832, along with a new flue and a new condensate pipe (entire length of pipe replaced) - both clear and free of any blockage or hindrance plus Vaillant SensoHome controls (still getting used to them).
10 year guarantee parts and labour - and installer has placed us on his "service reminder" list so we can't forget.
