Can I replace unswitched single socket with switched?

Very likely as that is test standard total load as specified in BS1363.
Winston, you may find that standard in your local library. Maybe it is on the same shelf as the copy of BS7671 that you refer to!;)

Maybe. I’ve not been to the library since COVID.
